Review
Produced by the Becel Heart Health Information Bureau, this collection
of 99 recipes includes a simple explanation of the fats and cholesterols
that may damage your heart, and advice on how to ease into healthy
eating habits and make them part of your daily routine. Canada’s Food
Guide, a checklist to identify areas for dietary improvement, tips on
wise grocery shopping and meal planning, and guidance in interpreting
product labeling will all help with the transition.
The recipes feature the sponsor’s products—Becel margarines and
cooking oil. They are grouped in sections by recipe type: Appetizers,
Soups, Salads, Meatless Main Courses, Meat and Poultry, Fish and
Seafood, Vegetables and Side Dishes, and Baking and Fruit Desserts.
Within each section, the recipes are further divided into “Fast” and
“When you have more time” categories. Preparation and baking times
are given, as well as the nutrients per serving and yield.
The index includes section names and a listing of the recipes in each
section, the recipe titles, and topical entries for nutritional and
ingredient explanations. Twelve mouth-watering color plates illustrate
that “hearthealthy” eating does not have to compromise eye-appeal.
