Review

The introduction to this cookbook for vegans discusses shopping for
everyday ingredients, offers cooking tips, and features menu plans. The
cookbook is divided into eight chapters: “Appetizers and Munchies,”
“Sauces, Gravies and Salad Dressings,” “Soups and Stews,”
“Salads and Sandwiches,” “Main Courses,” “Simple Sides,”
“Muffins and Snack Loaves,” and “Sweet Treats.” The recipes are
well arranged and easy to follow. Some of the tasty dishes include Basic
Creamy Garlic Sauce, “Lightened-Up” Falafels, Baked Herbed Spaghetti
Squash, Maple Banana Loaf, and Lentil Miso Patties. Recipes can take up
more than one page but they never require the reader to flip pages;
recipe directions would be easier to follow had they been written in
point form. Nutritional information is calculated for each recipe. The
author provides helpful hints, but suggested substitutes for some recipe
ingredients may prove difficult to find.

Every recipe we tested was superb! The Everyday Vegan will undoubtedly
become a staple for vegan cooks and for anyone who wants to cook for a
vegan.
