Review

Literary recipes? Culinary essays? It is difficult to characterize these
sensuous, evocative pieces as food columns from a magazine, but that is
what they are: the 49 crкme de la crкme from Fiorito’s weekly food
columns in Hour magazine. And food is the common element through the
collection. The sight of it triggers musings that explore the human
condition with sensitivity and wit. The smell of it sets off flashes of
memory—life’s experiences made vividly real again through sensation.
There are recipes in this collection too, thoughtfully flagged in the
table of contents, but the words are those of a poet, and they are food
for the soul.
