Review

This latest field guide in the Royal British Columbia Museum series
expertly fulfils the author’s intention to provide a useful resource
on sea cucumbers. The guide presents a good review of their biology,
evolution, general features, and conservation (since some species turn
up on some menus), as well as an overview of the role these organisms
play in marine ecology. It also includes identification keys, full
descriptions of 34 species, a glossary, and references. The
authoritative text is generously supplemented with excellent color and
black-and-white photographs as well as with line drawings. This guide is
highly recommended for anyone interested in coastal natural history.
