Review

This resource tool is a guide to ownership and control of most Canadian corporations with assets over $250,000 or sales greater than $500,000. It is an index of who owns and/or controls whom in Canada. Under the name of the corporation there is an indication of the percentages of voting rights held by other corporations, the name and country (if non-residential owners) of the corporation holding control, and then lists of corporations in descending order of control.

The index is meant for researchers and financial people as a good source for tracking down mergers and acquisitions and significant stock purchases. Much of the material here is derived from returns filed by Canadian corporations under the Corporations and Labour Unions Returns Act, as well as from other public sources used for determining the corporate structure of a foreign owner. There is a careful explanation of how to use the book, as well as the usual statistical notes and definitions for research, industrial classifications, and sources of pertinent data.
