Review

The fourth edition of the directory is the first to be jointly produced by the National Library of Canada and the Canadian Library Association. Updated information on interlibrary loan and photo-duplication costs and policies for 384 Canadian libraries is presented in tabular form under 14 major headings.

The directory begins with data on the National Library of Canada and the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information. The national level is then followed by information at the provincial level, with the provinces listed in alphabetical order. Each provincial institution is also arranged in alphabetical order according to its library symbol. The institutions include university and college libraries, major public libraries, selected government libraries, and libraries which specialize in specific areas.

The plan is to expand the directory in subsequent editions to encompass all the libraries listed in the National Library’s Symbols of Canadian Libraries; to include information on the UTLAS codes, document delivery systems, contact names, etc.; and to produce a French edition.

The directory is an essential tool for all interlibrary loan operations.
