Review

This short but informative book, with its large, easy-to-read typeface,
provides useful resources and suggestions related to a number of topics
that would be of interest to aging Canadians and their families. The
book incorporates findings and trends from recent social scientific
research and demographic information, as well as qualitative findings
based on the author’s personal interviews with a number of seniors
living in a variety of settings and circumstances, as well as their
caregivers. The book is scattered throughout with short, interesting
anecdotes; black-and-white photographs; and personal reflections from
Millar’s informants.

Individual chapters discuss topics such as changing attitudes,
interests and hobbies, elder abuse, sexuality, socio-cultural diversity,
ageism, living arrangements, pets, relationships, and financial and
health issues. Each chapter concludes with a short list of sources that
readers may wish to consult for additional information.
