Review

This collection of short stories is the first book by the award-winning
Saskatoon writer, whose previous works have been broadcast on cbc radio
or appeared separately in a variety of literary publications. The
situations in the stories are experienced from the point of view of
female characters—women past their youth who worry about aging and
fantasize about sexual encounters, couples or families who speak without
communicating, women who define their existence through the eyes of
others. McCrosky’s style is straightforward and colloquial, with
fantasy often unexpectedly blended with reality. These stories are
frequently humorous and poignant, and always intriguing, as they delve
into human emotions and relationships.
