Review

Celebrating the connection between themselves and the earth, the poets
featured in this captivating anthology demonstrate that there is a
profound attachment to the land rooted in the Canadian character. Some
of the poets remember the farm as it was; others document what has
become of it through neglect and abandonment; still others muse on how
the land has changed by the very act of cultivation. All see the land as
part of a continuing tradition. The poets themselves continue the noble
tradition established by such predecessors as Langland, John Clare, R.S.
Thomas, and Laurie Lee.
