Review

Subtitled “Gourmet Cooking on the Move,” this cookbook was designed
by and for pleasure boaters who want to enjoy healthful, appetizing
meals on board their boat as they travel. It will serve others, even
stay-at-homes, equally well, especially those with limited kitchen
space. The recipes are delicious and easy to prepare, and they present
beautifully, as their color illustrations show. Boaters have immediate
access to the freshest seafood available, but there are also dangers in
harvesting the bounty of the sea. Along with the more than 50 recipes
for seafood dishes featured in the book, there is also information on
locating, identifying, harvesting, and preparing safely the species of
fish and shellfish to be found along the Pacific Coast. But there is
much more than seafood for supper on Rudd’s boat. She has a diesel
stove with an oven on board, and produces full meals from appetizers to
desserts, including breads and other baked goods.

There are over 200 recipes in all, plus many helpful tips such as a
table of common ingredient substitutions, instructions for making
yogurt; home canning, purifying water, and a “Provisions List” that
covers all the ingredients needed to make the dishes in the book. The
recipes are well laid out with clear methods and yields in the
four-to-six serving range. The detailed index and lie-flat spiral
binding make it an easy book to consult and use every day.
