Review

This excellent guide to the process of separation and divorce is divided
into four parts. Part 1 discusses the breakup of a relationship and
helps readers assess whether or not reconciliation is a visible option.
Part 2 discusses the adversarial approach and the division of
matrimonial property. (Biem stresses the need for clean communication
between the couple before lawyers enter the picture, so that the couple
can guide the process rather than be guided by the lawyers.) Part 3
deals with the nitty-gritty of division of assets, while a final
chapter, entitled “Life after Divorce,” helps the participants put
the process of separation and divorce in a positive perspective and move
on with life. This clear and readable guide is recommended not only for
divorcing couples but also for the counselors and therapists who work
with them.
