Review

This series is small in size but huge in quality and value. Paré has
built a successful business on the principles of providing top-quality
cookbooks that are rich with proven recipes, colorful illustrations,
helpful hints on related topics, and imaginative yet practical
selections. All these positive characteristics of her full-size books
have been carried over to this pint-size series that contains all new
recipes.

Luscious results using readily available ingredients and everyday
methods are almost a trademark of Paré’s work. Even beginning cooks
can achieve good results by following these detailed recipes.

The four-book set makes a comprehensive reference for entertaining in
the home or at community events. Finger Food contains more than 60
recipes that would be useful for cocktail parties, office celebrations,
watch-the-game get-togethers, and so forth. Buffets goes further, with
numerous recipes for main dishes, salads, vegetables, and desserts, plus
buffet menus, planning suggestions, and table-layout information.

Party Planning offers some special dishes, plus punches, lots of
canapes, dips, and desserts. The emphasis is on pot luck, kids’,
cocktail, and dinner parties. Baking Delights supplements the first
three titles, as baked goods play a role in any type of entertaining.
The book features biscuits, breads, cakes, cookies, tea loaves, muffins,
pies, squares, etc., making it very useful for anyone who bakes for a
bed-and-breakfast, bake sales, or simply a hungry family.

All recipes give both Imperial and metric measures and a clear,
easy-to-follow method. Recipes are complete on a single page or two-page
spread—a very practical consideration for a cookbook. The beautiful
color photos both make the books attractive and give the reader a visual
guide when selecting recipes for a particular event.
