Review

The trouble with most cookbooks is that they assume you already know how
to cook. If you’re just starting out, and feeling a bit intimidated
and overwhelmed by it all, this is the cookbook for you. Starting with a
basic shopping list of kitchen equipment, it explains common cooking
terms and techniques and general procedures. The recipes are geared to
learning, with clear step-by-step methods and no-hassle ingredients that
are available in any grocery store. Even the book itself is designed to
be easy to use, with boldfaced ingredients lists, an index by titles and
recipe types, and a lie-flat binding. There are full menu ideas for
everyday meals and special occasions, and more than 1000 “no-fail”
recipes to work on, from soup to dessert, plus simple baking, party
food, snacks, and sandwiches. This is cooking to enjoy and to share:
nutritious, tasty, and presentable. (The Spiced Banana Coconut Bread
alone is worth the price of the book!)
