Review

Designed to help couples cohabit in an intimate and fulfilling way, this
book details the stages (reminiscent of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs)
that characterize many close relationships, and shows how people can
maintain intimacy with their significant others while preserving their
own distinctness and potential for growth.

The authors, who are experienced marriage counselors, include numerous
case studies as well as exercises designed either to facilitate
self-understanding or to provide insight into particular relationships.
Cartoons and poems help to enliven the text.

Although there is a definite Judeo-Christian bias in this book that may
alienate some readers, most couples will benefit from the theoretical
and practical insights expressed.
