Review

Life is full of occasions for simple celebrations with family and
friends, be they special events or just pleasant get-togethers. This
cookbook is designed around 12 party menus for a variety of occasions
such as buffet brunch, formal tea, family dinner; picnic, child’s
birthday party, aprиs ski or aprиs big-game-on-TV gatherings, and
“midnight madness” brunch for the aprиs prom or New Year’s Eve
crowd.

More than 100 recipes cover the full range of dishes from appetizers
through desserts. They feature healthful, low-fat ingredients and
creative ideas for garnishing and presenting dishes attractively.
Presentation is important for special-occasion food; it pleases the eye
and enhances the palate. Each of the menus is accompanied by serving and
presentation suggestions for the occasion, even ideas for appropriate
background music. Preparation schedules starting a day or two before the
occasion help the cook organize all the dishes in each menu, and there
are clear step-by-step methods for the recipes themselves. Measures are
imperial only. Yields average 10 to 12 portions.

There is a detailed index arranged by recipe title, principal
ingredient, and type of dish. A lie-flat binding would have made this
cookbook easier to use in the kitchen, but it will certainly be used
anyway. It is full of ideas to make every meal a celebration of wellness
and life.
