Review

First you need to know that there’s a piece of Canada called the
Magdalens, a 12-island archipelago in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Once
you’ve discovered that, you’re ready for this book, which will be
your constant companion while you explore some of the most delicate and
peaceful geography Canada has to offer.

The book is not a comprehensive guide to the Magdalens but rather a
look at various walking/hiking, cycling, and climbing routes on seven of
the islands that make up this Quebec tourist area. It describes in
detail more than 30 routes that will be of interest to anyone attracted
to sand dunes, dramatic cliffs, beaches, bird watching, rock climbing,
seal and whale watching, and all the pleasures of field, forest, ocean,
and unspoiled nature.

For each route there is a map; data such as level of difficulty,
length, features, cautions; and special tips. Respect for the
environment is stressed throughout.

This guide could be the key that unlocks Canada’s best-kept tourism
secret.
