Review

Compiled by longtime resident of the Charlottes Neil Carey, this is the
classic tourist guide to the area. Now in its 11th updated edition, it
has been promoting the Islands and assisting their visitors for more
than 20 years. The level of detail is remarkable, the product of the
Carey family’s active exploration and intimate knowledge of the
Islands accumulated over the last 30 years. Anglers will find advice on
which lures are most effective in which areas. Hikers and boaters will
find suggestions and historical information to help them make the most
of their visit to the major islands (Graham and Moresby). The chapter
titled “Getting There and Around and About” covers ferry and air
access, vehicle rentals, and accommodations. “A Little Bit of Natural
History” describes the indigenous plants, birds, and animals.
Appendices deal with weather information, Maritime Mobile Service
channels, a recreational directory, and useful information about events,
festivals, and museums. The guide is well indexed, and liberally
illustrated with maps and black-and-white photographs.
