Review

With the assistance of a government grant, three Ryerson students not only secured summer employment but compiled this reference manual. The reasons for compiling this manual are twofold: 1) although numerous medical health directories are published, coverage of food and nutrition is usually incomplete, and 2) although public health departments and provincial dietetic associations have published local directories, nothing has been done on the national scope.

The intent of the directory is to “provide professionals, as well as the public with a basic reference tool with which to discover what is being done in the field, who is doing it, and where and why it is being done”; the directory “represents an effort at communication on a national scale.” The methodology, beyond identifying organizations, involved designing a questionnaire to be sent to 1,500 organizations. Responses were edited, classified, and computer-processed.
