Review
The first three editions were published by the University of Toronto Press. This fourth edition has seen a few changes, mainly for the better. Basically, this is a listing of some 8,000 international, national, interprovincial, and provincial organizations in alphabetical order. Each entry gives name, address, and chief executive officer’s name. There is a classified subject index of about 800 terms, and the publisher has indicated that mailing labels can be purchased from the firm. New to this edition is what I’ve been clamouring for over the past several years: information on annual meeting dates and locations, staff size, membership, and serial publications. This is generally available if the association has correctly filled in and returned its questionnaire. This type of data sets this list off from that in the Corpus Almanac of Canada.
In format, the fourth edition is now an oversized book, soft bound, and with material in three columns. I fear that it might not stand up to repeated use, unless, of course, the publisher intends to issue the directory on an annual basis (please?).
