Review

“This is the second volume of an annual publication listing International Standard Book Number (ISBN) publisher prefixes assigned to Canadian publishers. New assignments of prefixes, name changes, and notices of publishers who have ceased operations are noted each month in the “Technical News” section of the National Library News. Entries in this volume are arranged alphabetically according to the full corporate name of each publisher. There is also a numerical listing, by publisher prefix. Ceased publishers are not included in either listing” (from the Preface, unpaged).

The National Library acts as the Canadian ISBN agency. This book contains lists of publishers dealing in one or both of the official languages of Canada; hence, the book language prefix “0” and “2” are used where applicable. This book, then, becomes the only full and complete directory of Canadian publishers’ addresses, and it is especially useful for tracking down obscure publishers and associations. Technical News: ISBN Assignments is now a separate publication, being issued quarterly in a loose-leaf, three-holed format from January 1983.
