Review

The menopause is a much-misunderstood phenomenon and the cause of needless apprehension to many women who are ill-informed as to the normal workings of the mature female body, the natural changes taking place at this particular time in the female life cycle, and the availability of medical assistance should these changes be the cause of unnecessary discomfort.

This commonsense approach to the subject by a practicing family planning adviser and well-woman counsellor provides advice on keeping fit and healthy, maintaining strong bones, the pros and cons of HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy), repair of internal damage on prolapsed organs, maintaining a happy and healthy sex life, and dealing with a changing role in family relations as children mature and the care of elderly parents becomes an increasing responsibility.

Most of the examples cited and agencies indicated are British, but some Canadian addresses are listed. Illustrated with photographs and diagrams; indexed.
