Review

This is a statistical portrait of the city of Toronto and of its people, through charts, tables, and photographs. All of the data were taken from Statistics Canada publications (these are all sourced as listed), but there is no index, and this makes the work difficult to use. Its original intent was as a presentation to the city in honour of its Sesquicentennial celebrations (CBRA even got an invitation to the Toronto press conference announcing the launch and dedication). The 97 charts and maps are highly useful, and they have been grouped according to five major areas: the evolution of Toronto’s population, the character of Toronto neighbourhoods, contemporary living (cost of living, family expenditures, recreation, crime, health), the city at work, and the economy of Toronto.
