Review

The art of delegation is one of the most important aspects of management. Harold Taylor describes, in twelve concise chapters, all the various issues of delegation.

He starts with a very clear definition of leadership and delegation, covers its benefits, and provides 25 indicators by which the reader can measure himself as a manager to see whether he is an effective delegator. Other topics include the process of delegation, a summary of the important principles to be kept in mind while delegating, how to keep track of assignments, controlling performance, and developing subordinates.

Although the book is not very long, it contains a wealth of practical information on delegation and related matters, such as time management and people development. The style is simple and direct. Various diagrams, checklists, and sample forms greatly help any manager wanting to become proficient at effective delegation.

A most useful volume on an important management topic, this book can be of help to both the novice and the experienced manager.
