Review

Budget Travel in Canada is a well-organized, easy-to-use guide for budget travellers of all ages and backgrounds.

The book opens with a lengthy overview of Canada. The traveller is provided with a map, a historical sketch, a distance chart, and information on public holidays, credit cards accepted, health services, provincial sales tax, weights and measures, what to carry, questions to ask, entering Canada, embassies and consulates, tourist information centres, transportation, accommodation (including YMCA/YWCA, hostels, and university residences), eating out, liquor regulations, and youth services.

Information-packed sections are provided on each of Canada’s ten provinces and two territories. Events, recreation, provincial and national parks, major and minor cities, transportation, accommodation, food, attractions, and historic sites are among the topics covered. The emphasis is always on inexpensive or free attractions.

Except in the sections dealing with provincial and national parks, camping areas are not listed. Restaurants have not been listed, except for some in the major cities.
