Review
Gale Moore, who teaches sociology at the University of Toronto, proves in Horizontal and Vertical that much work is needed to stop the persistence of injustice within job distribution in Canada. Researchers still encounter problems with the data, with much remaining hidden and masked. “The increased participation of women in the labour force has not affected the occupational distribution substantially”; changes remain uneven. Papers like Moore’s will contribute to showing “old data in new light” which may then lead to the availability of more detailed occupational data and, finally, to the abolition of occupational segregation by gender.
