Review
Monty is a librarian at York University in Toronto, specializing in government documents and administrative studies. She is also vice-president of a small business. Her purpose, according to the book, is to provide a small business with a concise and useful reference information source. Half of the book covers how to start and run a successful small business (principles of financial management, accounting, personnel work, marketing, computers, etc.). The other half concerns secondary resource materials. She annotates important books and materials dealing with franchising, forecasting, import/export regulations, management, marketing, security, site location, and taxation. In another part she presents the sources of business information through indexes, company and industry directories, government documents, and computer retrieval systems. And in a third part she comments on a library information centre for the small business (how it runs, what it should contain). Extremely useful and thought-provoking.
