Review

The areas of the Rockies featured in this revised and updated Altitude
SuperGuide are the four mountain parks: Banff, Jasper, Yoho, and
Waterton Lakes National Parks; Kootenay National Park; Mt. Assiniboin,
Mt. Robson, and Hamber Provincial Parks; and Kananaskis Country. The
largest portion of the text deals with Banff and the Icefields Parkway
South; the smallest section covers Kootenay National Park.

The visually attractive guide includes many clear photographs as well
as color topographic maps at 1:200,000 scale. It also includes lots of
sidebar and historical information (printed on pastel backgrounds) that
highlight things visitors want to know, such as the human history and
natural history of the areas, and the biography and descriptions of
major sites. Significant mountain peaks are given one- or two-paragraph
descriptions. Hiking trails are sometimes mentioned (Pole has also
written several well-known hiking guides to the Rockies).

Anyone planning to visit these Rocky Mountain parks—as well as
libraries requiring a quick-reference source for the area—would be
well served by this guide.
