Review

Billed as the “official handbook of the Canadian Authors Association,” this is basically a how-to guide and market directory for freelance writers in Canada. It gives practical advice on record-keeping and it lists 500 markets.

The book is a useful standard tool that has appeared over the past 20 years. But while there is much information on how to write and how to market, there is nothing on how to do research or how to conduct an interview. In addition to the markets (children’s, educational, poetry, romance, sports, etc.), there are lists of possible awards, literary agencies, writers’ associations, and the media (newspapers, television, radio, and film).
