Review
The fourth edition of the DAC was reviewed in CBRA 1982, entry 1028; it was the first to be published by Micromedia (the earlier editions came from the University of Toronto Press). The DAC now lists about 12,000 associations, and it is now issued almost on an annual basis. This should help its problems with currency.
With each edition it looks more and more like Gale’s Encyclopedia of Associations; that is, it has more and more descriptive data about each group, moving beyond the first edition’s name, address, and subject code. Text includes a Chief Executive Officer’s name, the number of paid employees, the number of members, date and place of annual meetings for the next three years (if known), titles of serial publications and their frequency, and Telex numbers (although this latter is going the way of the dodo; the DAC should try electronic mail addresses next time).
