Review

Brian E. Anderson and J. Christopher Snyder are the authors of this excellent and informative book, now in its fifth edition. The authors were born in Canada and are graduates of the University of Toronto. Both share extensive experience in the life insurance business. Anderson does personal financial planning for executives and owner-managers of private companies. Snyder is the author of several well-known books on financial matters and is in the consulting business where he deals with executive compensation and financial planning. This fifth edition of their book exemplifies their expertise in the world of money.

Interest in financial planning has never been greater than it is today. Since the severe recession of ‘81 and ‘82, Canadians are more conscious of financial security than ever before. Financial planning has become a necessity for everybody from the top executive to the “young marrieds.”

This book deals with the “hows” of borrowing money, buying insurance and budgeting; what to do when you lose your job; becoming a widow or getting divorced; all aspects of mortgages; investing in gold or RRSPs; tax shelters, mutual funds, and much more. There is a wealth of practical down-to-earth information in this book — a “must” for everyone who has a dollar (or more).

One of its many best features is a list of dos and don’ts at the end of each chapter, each containing pearls of practical financial wisdom and a summation of the contents of the chapters.

I heartily recommend this book.
