Current Perspectives on Nutrition and Health

Arlene M. Gryfe is a Toronto-based professional nutritionist and home
economist.

Current Perspectives on Nutrition and Health is a compilation of the
proceedings of a 1996 symposium that was sponsored by the Royal Society
of Canada in collaboration with the Centre of Human Nutrition at the
University of Western Ontario.

The symposium dealt with various aspects of the role of diet in health
and disease. Topics included cardiovascular disease, diet-related health
problems (hypertension, renal disease, diabetes, and obesity), diet and
health maintenance (including osteoporosis and alcohol usage), nutrition
problems of the elderly, the role of diet in cancer, and the future of
nutrition research in Canada. The contributors, all noted researchers in
their chosen fields, represent a broad range of countries. Each paper
includes a list of references.

The book is intended primarily for dietitians, home economists,
nutritionists, nurses, physicians, and other health-care professionals
concerned with the interpretation of research findings and their
implications for the general public. The educated layperson with an
interest in the role of diet in health and disease may also find it a
useful resource.
