Review

In this their second cookbook, the Alberta Beekeepers’ Association presents 149 new tested recipes featuring their principal product. Honey is a natural sweetener, preservative-free, and traditionally a “quick-energy” food. As one might expect, there is a good selection of recipes for beverages, baked goods, and candies. There are also some delicious vegetable, poultry, fish, and meat dishes. But the most unusual group of recipes is for natural skin-care products, which make use of honey’s skin-softening properties — beeswax and pollen. All of the recipes provide both imperial and metric units in boldface type, clearly written instructions, and the yield. They are indexed by title and by major product groups. The book is attractively illustrated and conveniently spiral-bound.
