Review

The jacket blurb enquires, “Is there life after the Liberals?” and the text answers the question. Here, in the midst of the Mulroney years, the goings-on in Ottawa, surreal as they are, are pretty hard to believe even while one is observing them live on television. Somehow their true quality seems better analyzed, indeed better preserved, in this inspired combination of satiric prose and bull’s-eye political caricature. The ‘tit gars from Baie Comeau collects most of the bumps, but that leaves plenty to spare for the missus, Michael Wilson, Eric Neilsen, Sinclair Stevens, John Crosbie and family, Joe Clark, all the participants of the jolly Shamrock Summit and more. Well, if anybody has to take it on the chin, this wickedly funny book goes far to prove that we’ve got the right man for the job.
