Review

Anticipating breakfast goodies from this most recent Paré masterpiece
makes it difficult to sleep at night. Imagine waking up to a feast of
bumbleberry pizza, scotch eggs, crab quiche, and amaretto strawberries.
Or perhaps your fantasy brunch includes mushroom strata, eggs in
peppers, angel biscuits, chorizo rolls, and champagne orange juice.

Breakfast, Paré believes, can be more than the traditional dry cereal
or bacon and eggs. In this collection she proves that the first meal of
the day can have as much variety and appeal as any other meal, without
sacrificing nutrition. She also shows that brunch is a creative,
economical way to entertain.

The recipes are uncomplicated and practical. They call for readily
available ingredients and most need a very short prep time,
characteristics certain to be appreciated by today’s busy families.
Many of the brunch recipes would make great supper dishes, giving the
book bonus points for versatility.

As with all Company’s Coming books, Breakfasts and Brunches is thick
with rich color photos, has a clean, practical layout and an open-flat
binding, provides measurements in both metric and imperial units, and is
peppered with puns and smiles. The nutritional analysis (calories,
protein, fat, cholesterol, sodium) given for each recipe makes it easy
to fit them into special diets. Highly recommended.
