Review

An Unexpected Journey tells the stories of 12 women who have had breast
cancer. The author, in the aftermath of her own surgery, interviewed
these women of very different ages and sociocultural backgrounds. Their
stories of endurance and survival are at once moving and down-to-earth.
Each woman coped with her illness in ways that reflected her own
distinct personality. Reading this involving book is somewhat like
being, for a time, a member of a breast-cancer survivors’ support
group. As a source of information, encouragement, and hope, An
Unexpected Journey is highly recommended for anyone touched by breast
cancer.
