Review

Dr. Robert Buckman, a cancer specialist, has written a comprehensive and
readable guide to the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of cancers. The
book is both insightful and objective in its analysis of conventional
and unconventional treatments, the limitations of cancer research, and
the relationship between psychology and cancer. On the latter topic,
Buckman writes that “[altering] your attitudes to diminish the stress
and the distress caused by the cancer can only help you. Whether that
effort prolongs survival or not it is undeniable that ... feeling better
is a whole lot better than feeling worse.” This is an excellent
sourcebook for those with either a personal or a professional interest
in cancer.
