Review

This beautiful Lone Pine field guide is organized by classification.
Covering the Rockies in general, it features photographs of most species
of plants included and some black-and-white drawings.

The wildflowers section occupies the bulk of the volume. The six pages
of thumbnail images that open this section have been organized by color,
a useful device for those who do not know how to use a key to identify a
plant. In addition to wildflowers, the book covers trees, shrubs,
aquatic plants, grasses, sedges, ferns, mosses, and lichens. A glossary,
reference list, and an index to both common and scientific names are
also included.

While there are more comprehensive plant guides that cover the Rockies
or parts of the Rockies, this one supplies, in a single volume, the most
common plants that people will want to identify. Recommended for all
public library collections in the Rocky Mountain region, academic
collections supporting botanical research, and anyone with an interest
in plants who is planning to visit the Rocky Mountains.
