Review

Featuring attractive and effective paintings, these two titles survey
the natural history of their respective species. The volume on whales
includes discussions of such topics as baleen, spyhopping, calls, and
migration (useful maps are provided here). Social behavior and seasonal
coloration of fur are among the subjects addressed in the book on wild
dogs. In both volumes, anatomy and raising young are particularly well
explained by way of annotated illustrations. Pollution, conservation,
and interactions with humans are also considered. A helpful glossary and
index are included. Highly recommended.
