Review
For the many children who are fascinated by penguins, this book provides
a simple, attractive introduction to their life histories. Topics
include the nature, diversity, and classification of penguins; bodily
adaptations (they have solid bones); preening and molting; home ranges;
roles as predators and as prey; locomotion and camouflage;
body-temperature regulation; rookeries; and mating, hatching, and
rearing of offspring. The direct, easy-to-read text also features some
penguin anecdotes and is supported by good color photographs, drawings,
a glossary, and an index. Regrettably, there is no geographical
information or source list for further reading. Recommended.
