Review

Most corporate histories are written to document accomplishments, to
justify certain actions, or to rationalize failure. All three objectives
seem to apply, in varying degrees, to A Winning Combination. Faye Mingo
feared that the story of her father’s company, which was prominent in
Eastern Canada from the 1940s to the early 1970s, would go unrecorded.
Her book is essentially a chronological history of the family and
business, with little attempt made at interpretation or analysis. Her
explanations for the company’s failure are not satisfactorily
developed. This book may be an interesting keepsake for family members,
but it is of little relevance to others.
