Review

This workbook is ideal for readers who are sufficiently serious about
becoming self-employed to be willing to invest some time and effort in
planning and self-discovery.

Lang, an entrepreneur with a track record for succeeding in a variety
of ventures, has structured his book around the profiles of
approximately 30 entrepreneurs. By looking at what these people brought
to the self-employment challenge, the route they took, the mistakes they
made, and the breaks they generated for themselves, Lang is able to draw
out a number of guiding principles. These in turn are illustrated and
demonstrated through structured exercises to be completed by the reader.

There are several added-value features to the guide: a sample business
plan for an entrepreneurial venture; a list of business terms; lists of
organizations useful to entrepreneurs, complete with mailing addresses,
and fax and phone numbers; a guide for interviewing entrepreneurs. The
book is thoughtfully organized, taking the reader step-by-step from idea
through development and implementation to evaluation.

Although primarily a workbook, it also has value as a quick overview of
the nature of self-employment and is useful as a reference tool.
