Review

More than 60 spectacular colour photographs, many full- or double-page,
illustrate this thoughtful study of the largest creatures on Earth.
Biologist David Jones is a gifted writer who presents the wonders of
serious science in a way that engages and holds his reader’s
attention. As he explores the evolution of whales, their varieties, and
natural history, and the history of the industry that has driven them to
the brink of extinction, he encourages us to consider what we can do to
save the whales’ habitat and our own. This beautiful book would be
equally at home on the coffee table or on the reference shelf.
