Vancouver and Victoria, B.C., welcome tourists from all over the world
in every season of the year. This guide is for them, to help them get
the most from their short stay with a minimum of fuss and travel-related
stress. An introductory chapter on trip planning, budgeting, travel
options, and passport/customs requirements gets the traveller off to a
realistic start. The remainder of the guide covers hotels, dining,
shopping, and exploring the cities, including some suggested theme-based
tours and day trips for sightseeing. A “Quick Concierge” section
printed on bright yellow pages anticipates likely questions on
everything from ATMs to weather updates and includes toll-free numbers
and websites for major carriers, car rental agencies, and hotel/motel
chains. Street maps showing recommended accommodations, restaurants,
attractions, and shopping, with indexes by neighbourhood, price,
cuisine, and type of merchandise, help travellers orient themselves
quickly and find their own way around. The annotations are upbeat and
informative, including addresses, phone numbers, and descriptions of the
goods, services, and ambience offered. Most locations are in the
downtown area, and the emphasis is on high-end choices offering superior
quality. This is an excellent guide for visitors and a useful reference
source for residents of the cities.
