Review

More booklet than book, Sayings nonetheless has substance. It is a
collection of 100 brief quotes from women, both Canadian and American,
on the theme of self-actualization, acceptance, and success in a
male-dominated world. Almost all are one-liners.

Some of the quotes are ponderous and painfully serious. A few add a
touch of humor (e.g., “Give a man a free hand and he’ll run it all
over you”), while others have a marvelous statement-of-fact tone
(e.g., “Today I wrote a poem, canned six jars of tomatoes and reread
Trilby”).

It could be useful as a stand-in for a greeting card.
