Review

Summer Flavours captures the seasonal spirit of Atlantic Canada, namely
the epicurean delights based entirely on the abundant array of luscious
fruits and vegetables. With the beauty of simplicity in mind, the
authors have engaged talented chefs from some of the most prominent
Maritime kitchens to contribute their best summer creations.

The result is a blend of traditional and novel cuisine, with recipes
that range from the old-fashioned picnic potato salad to the more
sophisticated luncheon dishes like Sparkling Chilled Melon Soup or
Lobster and Roasted Red Pepper on Sunflower Bread. The book offers a
fabulous collection of lobster, salmon, halibut, mussel, and scallop
dishes as well as the occasional chicken or red-meat course. Whether one
tries the Cantaloupe and Blueberry Wake Up for breakfast or the
mouthwatering Raspberry Romanoff and Blueberry Charlotte as a nightcap,
one thing that all the recipes have in common is that they call for
ultimately pure, unadorned ingredients.

Beautifully illustrated and complete with tips on pairing of wines with
hot-weather food, this cookbook offers plenty of good advice for hosting
elegant picnics, patio-style luncheons, even pool-side barbecues.
