Review

This is another title in the long-standing series by Canadian cookbook
guru Jean Paré. It is well laid out, with one recipe per page,
ingredients listed in metric and imperial measurements, and
easy-to-follow instructions. There are many glossy, labeled pictures to
tempt cooks and a well-arranged index to help them find the recipe they
need.

The recipes range from the traditional (Raisin Cake, Chocolate Pudding,
Date and Nut Bars) to the more exotic (Espresso Sundae, Seed and Honey
Fruit Plums, Sweet Pineapple Tea). The ingredients are basic, with most
items available in any baker’s pantry.

The book is coil-bound for easy handling in the kitchen. The tips found
throughout are indexed at the back. Advertisements at the front and back
of the book promote other titles in the series. This mildly irritating
distraction should not prevent bakers from adding Sweet Cravings to
their libraries.
