Review

Since the author’s first edition, Day Trips from Vancouver, appeared
over a decade ago, new recreational areas and even new recreations, such
as in-line skating, have appeared. This latest collection covers 50 of
his favorite outings, and the information is presented in a new format
to aid trip planners. Distance to the destination, most suitable
activities, and special attractions at the site are highlighted at the
beginning of each daytrip’s chapter. There are directions for driving
to the area and also for taking public transit when that is an option.
The detailed guide for exploring each destination includes a map showing
the trails and roads, a running commentary on the points of interest
along the way, and a black-and-white photograph of a typical view. The
trips are conveniently grouped into five general areas: North Shore,
North of the Fraser, South of the Fraser, Fraser River Estuary, and Sea
to Sky Corridor. Most are within an hour’s drive of Vancouver. Names
of trails, parks, communities, and natural features are indexed so the
user can quickly locate a trip that includes them. Like its
predecessors, this new guide will give its users many hours of enjoyment
and exercise as they explore the southwestern corner of British
Columbia.
