Review

This revised and enlarged 5th edition of the Macarees’ popular guide
includes 10 new walks; updated and redrawn maps; and a new, very useful
feature for planning an excursion—indexes by distance and walking
time. A comprehensive map of the Lower Mainland indicates where all the
walks are situated, and the chapters for the individual walks have
detailed maps showing the trail, roads, and points of interest. Each
walk’s chapter begins with a short table highlighting the distance,
the amount of time to allow for completion, the elevation gain if
notable, the walking surface, and the best times of year to enjoy it.
The narrative that follows guides the walker along the trail or roadway,
pointing out features of interest along the way. A black-and-white
photograph of a typical scene on the walk illustrates each one.
Distances range from 2 to 23 kilometres. A list of Internet sites for
parks, trails, and community recreational facilities is provided as a
source of additional information about the areas where the walks are
located. Tens of thousands of walkers have used this guide since it was
first published in 1976, and will welcome and enjoy this new edition.
