Review
Following the model of his highly successful Stanley Park guidebook The
Stanley Park Explorer (1985), Mike Steele has produced another excellent
guide for tourists and residents who want to enjoy Vancouver’s
world-famous 1000-acre oasis. Five self-guided walks make up the bulk of
the guide. They are accompanied by maps, with the attractions numbered
for easy reference to the text. The narrative combines description,
history, and anecdote. Historical black-and-white photographs illustrate
the walks and the general introduction on the history of the park. A new
color photo section entitled “Stanley Park Today” concludes the
guide and shows the park and its wildlife through the changing seasons.
Well-indexed and packed with facts and figures, this book is a must for
any collection on Vancouver.
