Review

This book discusses conditions that can interfere with learning in the
classroom, as well as their effects and treatments. While the main focus
is on attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia,
there is a discussion of writing, spelling, and math problems, and a
brief outline of a number of other problems that may affect learning.
The author, a practising and teaching pediatrician, also provides
information that will help parents to become critical consumers of
research. His book, which is lucidly written and well-documented,
includes addresses and information concerning various organizations for
people with learning disabilities.

While not every reader will agree with Feldman’s views (he is a
strong advocate of stimulant medication for children with diagnosed
ADHD), parents and teachers of children with learning difficulties are
likely to benefit from his advice and recommendations.
